Diaper Drama

I am so sick of crappy diapers. And I’m referring to quality, not quantity.

I can’t tell you how many times in the past week my 4-month-old has leaked through his padded diaper. I am getting sick of it.

When he was a newborn I used only the really nice Huggies and Pampers. But the past two times I have bought a store-brand box of diapers because, let’s be honest, they are half the price.

But the consequences have been dangerous. I never know when I am going to be somewhere and pooh will seep through his shirt.

It’s getting to the point where I might as well buy cloth diapers. I mean I have to rinse waste out his onesies anyway. I might as well strap a padded, cloth triangle to his tush.

I will admit that recently I threw a onesie away because I was not in the mood to scrub it out. I was shopping with him late at night when it happened and I am not ashamed to confess that I threw that soiled shirt into a Wal-Mart trashcan.

I know my other boys leaked through their diapers occasionally, but I don’t remember it being this bad. Maybe it’s because my youngest has several spare rolls around his middle, making the diaper difficult to cinch.

But I just bought a big box of the next size up and they are still leaking. And no matter how tight I get it, these cheap diapers always seem to have a slight gap in the back.

In my defense, I don’t wait to change him. If I know he needs to be changed I do it quickly – most of the time it is still too late.

I guess I might have to break down and buy name-brand diapers again. It’s either that or keep on cleaning up crap. I just wish decent diapers weren’t so stinking expensive.

We had that problem too… I just gave up and only get pampers now. We order them through amazon and have amazon prime and if you sign up to just have them sent like every 3 months or something then they get to be a pretty decent price… At least compared to,what they were.

I am so glad I am not the only one who has had a problem with this. I thought I wasn’t being a very good mom. Someone else mentioned Amazon Mom. I’m going to look into ordering diapers online. I think it sounds wonderful!

Pampers and Huggies are the only ones with a stretchy spot somewhere around the waist – Pampers on the straps and Huggies in the back. Huggies also have that cool pocket at the top in the back so a blow-out has less chances of actually coming up out the back and into the shirt. I’ve always stuck to the expensive diapers, because I can’t handle the mess of cheap diapers. The bigger the box of diapers, the cheaper it is per diaper. It’s still expensive, but it’s worth it to me.

I think a pocket in the back would definitely help. It might not stop all blow outs, but I think it may stop them from happening 2 and 3 times a day. I guess I’ll have to upgrade.

I was going to say both of those things, so I’ll just reiterate. 🙂 Mine are little poo monsters as well, and even with the huggies pocket in the back, they still leak out almost every time. Today, I picked up a baby to change him and poo poured out the back of his diaper. 😛
I signed up for Amazon Mom which gives you a discount on top of the subscribe and save discount. They ship them as often as you need and shipping is free. I prefer Huggies because pampers are just straight in the back and don’t hold in excess poo at all. Huggies have the pocket and elastic all along the back. BUTT (tee hee) we still have poo-splotions at least once a day, so maybe it doesn’t make any difference at all! Lol!

I am definitely going to have to look into Amazon Mom. If they give me an extra discount AND I don’t have to take my kids into a store just to buy diapers, I’m in 🙂

Signing up for A-Mom also gives you 3 months of amazon prime for free. Then you get another free month with every order over $20 or something like that. So if you get the big boxes, you’ll pretty much get a year of free Amazon Prime, which includes video streaming, and free 2 day shipping on any other orders. I priced it out once and based on the online prices listed the Huggies were cheaper than target brand per diaper. 🙂 I’m a big fan, if you can’t tell! Beware of amazon addiction though, it happens to the best of us.

I think the quality of diapers has gone down drastically. I have always bought cheap diapers with all 3 kids. But it is my third where we have major leakage issues too. And it even would happen with Huggins and Pampers. I think it boils down to the economy – we are paying more for crappier diapers.

Sorry the diapers suck. I used to love Target diapers. They worked great for my girls. Once in a while we had a “blow out”. But it wouldn’t matter what kind of diaper I had during that it would still be up to their hair in the back. Maybe he has special “blowout” poop all the time. No matter what it’s a bummer. I guess you always have to have one kid ruin the hand me downs!!
